Rants n' Raves, Rants n' Raves, everyone loves dem Rants n' Raves!
01/2007 Everyone's a crit' - You've seen them by now, and you've probably rented a movie based upon what they say. "Greatest horror film of the decade." "A true masterpiece." blah blah blah....But look closely at the names of the critics. "Ain't it cool news." "Darkness Magazine." etc. It's not like I have a great love for mainstream critics, most of those sucktards are on the studio dole (or they're just complete idiots). But please oh please tell me how these high school journalist level blurbs are making their way on to big budget films like "Apocalypto" and "Wolf Creek" et al. Oh right, it's probably because these films can't even garner a line of praise from the big crits, so they troll for blazing endorsements from ma and pa Cyber-Kettle. Now ain't that cool news?
05/2006 (updated 01/2007) Unfortunate Son - Have you noticed the skewering of famous songs used in commercials lately? For instance a Wrangelr jeans commercial used CCR's "Fortunate Son" in which the beginning lyrics which could be construed as patriotic but of course leave out the lyrics which denounced the government and class systems of the '60s when it was written, thus effectively altering the meaning of the tune for a whole new breed of mindless, historically-challenged morons! Now buy those fucking jeans!
Other revisionist commercials include Fed Ex using Steve Miller's "Fly Like an Eagle" and Pontiac's use of Smashmouth's "Walking on the Sun." (btw, anarchist rockers Chumbawumba allowed a Car company to use their tune "Pass it along" then passed along the money they made to a watchdog group investigating the very same car company)
There is also a cruise line which routinely uses an Iggy Pop tune "Love So Alive" (I think that's the name of it) and the newest slew of Target commericals skewering Beatles tunes...you say hello and I say GOOD BUY?? Fucking hell people, revisionism is weak!
